How to Get to Playa de Krapets

Getting to Playa de Krapets is part of the adventure, as its remote location contributes to its pristine charm. Generally, the most comfortable way to access it is through the international airports of Varna (approximately 100 km to the south) or Burgas (a bit farther, about 200 km). From either of these cities, the most recommended option is to rent a car, which will give us the freedom to explore the area at our own pace.

The journey from Varna takes us along a coastal road that, although not always of the highest quality, offers picturesque views of the Bulgarian countryside and small villages. Once we approach the village of Krapets, the signs to the beach are quite clear. The village itself is small and welcoming, and the beach is a short distance away, accessible via dirt roads that lead directly to this natural paradise. Don't expect large paved parking lots; here, parking is rather informal, along the road or in areas designated by locals.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Krapets, the first thing that captivates us is the quality of its sand. It's a fine and golden sand, incredibly soft underfoot, inviting us to take off our shoes and feel every grain. This characteristic makes it an ideal place for walking, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing in the sun. The expanse of the beach is impressive; we can walk for kilometers without encountering crowds, which gives us an unparalleled feeling of freedom and privacy.

The waters of the Black Sea at Krapets are generally calm and shallow near the shore, making them safe for swimming, especially for children. The water temperature during the summer months is very pleasant, ideal for a refreshing dip. Although they don't have the crystal-clear transparency of some Mediterranean coves, their bluish-green color and cleanliness invite us to dive in. We were surprised by the absence of rocks or pebbles in the swimming area, which makes access and comfort when entering and exiting the sea easier.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Krapets stands out for its wild character and limited infrastructure, which is precisely what attracts many of its visitors. Don't expect to find the opulence of major tourist beaches here, but rather a more modest and functional offering, in harmony with the natural surroundings.

The services we found are basic but sufficient to enjoy a day at the beach:

• Parking: As mentioned, parking is informal, but there's generally enough space along the access roads. It's not a supervised parking lot, so we recommend caution.
• Chiringuitos: There are some chiringuitos or small beach huts, especially during the peak summer season. They offer refreshing drinks, ice cream, and some simple local food options, like grilled fish or salads. They are very rustic establishments with their own charm.
• Lifeguards: During the summer months, and in the busier areas, there is usually a lifeguard presence. However, given the vast expanse of the beach, not all areas are covered, so we always recommend exercising extreme caution when swimming.
• Umbrellas and Sunbeds: Some of the chiringuitos offer umbrella and sunbed rentals, although it's more common for visitors to bring their own equipment to enjoy shade and comfort as they like.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Krapets can make a difference in our experience. As beach tourism experts, we always consider several factors to recommend the best time:

• Summer (July and August): These are the warmest and most popular months. Temperatures are ideal for swimming and sunbathing, and the atmosphere is livelier, with chiringuitos and services operating at full capacity. However, although it remains a quiet beach compared to other destinations, this is when we'll find more people.
• Late Spring (May and June): If we're looking for tranquility and pleasant temperatures for walking and enjoying the landscape, these months are excellent. The water is already suitable for swimming, and nature is at its peak. It's a perfect time for birdwatching, as the area is part of the Via Pontica migratory route.
