How to get to Cala Carbó

Getting to Cala Carbó is part of the adventure and charm of discovering a slightly more secluded place. We always recommend renting a car to explore the island with freedom, and for this cove, it is almost essential. From San José (Sant Josep de sa Talaia), the journey is relatively short but involves traveling along a winding and descending road, which adds a touch of anticipation to the trip. The signs are usually clear, but a good GPS is always an ally.

Route from San José

Leaving the town of San José, we will take the road towards Cala Vadella. Before reaching the latter, we will find signposted turnoffs to other coves, and we must be attentive to the specific sign for Cala Carbó. The final road is narrow and winding, but the surrounding landscape, with its dense pine forests and partial sea views, already prepares us for what awaits. At the end of the road, we will find a parking area, although we must warn that in high season it can fill up quickly. Our advice is to arrive early, especially if you visit in July or August, to secure a good spot and enjoy the cove at its calmest moment.

The sand and water

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Cala Carbó beach is its composition. Do not expect an endless stretch of fine white sand; here, nature presents itself in a charming mixture of sand and pebbles, which give it a very particular feel and texture. For us, this particularity is part of its authenticity, a reminder that we are in a natural environment and not on an artificially modified beach. We recommend bringing water shoes if you have sensitive feet, although they are not strictly necessary.

But if the sand is mixed, the water is simply spectacular. The waters of Cala Carbó are famous for their transparency and their turquoise hue, which irresistibly invites a dip. The calm of its waters, protected by the rocky formations that flank it, make it a perfect natural pool. The underwater visibility is excellent, making it ideal for snorkeling, allowing us to observe the rich marine life that inhabits its seabed. It is a true pleasure to immerse yourself in these waters and let yourself be carried away by the serenity of the surroundings.

Despite its size and its 'hidden cove' atmosphere, Cala Carbó offers some basic services that make the stay very comfortable without detracting from its charm. We highly value that, although it is not a crowded beach, it has the essentials to enjoy a full day.

Available services:

• Chiringuitos: On the cove itself you will find one or two chiringuitos, simple and with that Ibizan charm, where you can enjoy a fresh meal, a soft drink, or a coffee with sea views. They are perfect for extending the day and trying some local cuisine without moving away from the shore.
• Sun umbrellas and sunbeds: It is possible to rent sun umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach, which is very practical if you do not want to carry your own equipment and prefer comfort. However, prices can be a bit high, as is usual on the island.
• Parking: As mentioned, there is a parking area at the end of the road. It is free, but its capacity is limited, so anticipation is key, especially in the summer months. Sometimes, you may have to park a little further away and walk a short distance, but the walk is worth it.

Best time to visit

For us, choosing the right time to visit Cala Carbó is crucial to fully enjoy its charm. As with many Balearic beaches, the high summer season (July and August) attracts a large number of visitors, and although the cove is beautiful, it can lose some of its characteristic tranquility.

Our recommendations:

• May, early June and September, early October: These are, without a doubt, our favorite times. The weather is still wonderful, with pleasant temperatures for both swimming and sunbathing, but the influx of people is considerably lower. You can enjoy the cove with almost absolute peace, find parking without difficulty, and feel like you have this little paradise almost to yourselves. The days are long and the sunsets, spectacular.
