How to Get to Playa de Gandarío

Getting to Playa de Gandarío is quite straightforward, which adds to its appeal. We always recommend planning your route in advance, but in general, here are the options:

By Car

This is the most comfortable option and the one we usually choose. From A Coruña, take the AP-9 towards Ferrol and then the exit towards Bergondo/Sada. Once in the municipality of Bergondo, signs for the beach or the Gandarío Leisure Time Residential Center (CRTLEG), which is right next to it, will guide you without any problem. The beach has a spacious parking lot, although on the busiest summer days it can fill up, so we advise arriving early.

By Public Transport

There are bus lines connecting A Coruña with Bergondo and nearby municipalities. However, to get directly to the beach, you may need to transfer or walk a stretch. We recommend checking the schedules and routes of the 'Monbus' or 'Autocares Vázquez' bus companies to plan your trip.

The Sand and Water

The first thing we notice when stepping onto Playa de Gandarío is the quality of its sand. It's fine, golden sand, incredibly soft underfoot, perfect for sunbathing or for the little ones to build sandcastles without difficulty. Its length, about 600 meters, means that even on the busiest days, we can find our own space to relax.

The waters of Gandarío are certainly one of its greatest charms. Being in an estuary, they are well-protected from the Atlantic's strong currents and waves, making them calm and safe waters. They are ideal for swimming, especially for children and the elderly. Furthermore, their cleanliness and quality are guaranteed by the presence of the Blue Flag, a distinction renewed year after year, giving us the peace of mind of knowing we are in a well-maintained, environmentally respectful setting.

• Full Accessibility: This is one of Gandarío's strong points. It has ramps and wooden walkways that facilitate access right to the shoreline, and they often have amphibious chairs and support staff for people with reduced mobility. A true example of inclusion.
• Parking: As mentioned, it has a nearby parking lot, which is a great advantage.
• Chiringuitos (Beach Bars): A good chiringuito is a must at the beach. In Gandarío, we find options for a drink, an ice cream, or even a snack while enjoying the views.
• Children's Play Area: For the little ones, there is a playground that perfectly complements the fun in the sand and water.
• Gandarío Leisure Time Residential Center (CRTLEG): This center, adjacent to the beach, offers a wide range of activities and camps, bringing a very dynamic and youthful atmosphere to the area.

Best Time to Visit

Although Playa de Gandarío is attractive all year round for walks and enjoying the landscape, the best time to visit if we want to swim and take advantage of all its services is undoubtedly summer, from June to September. During these months, temperatures are more pleasant, days are longer, and all services are fully operational, including the lifeguard team and the chiringuitos.

If we prefer to avoid crowds and enjoy tranquility, the months of spring (May) and early autumn (September-October) are also excellent options. The climate is usually mild, ideal for walks along the shore, although the water might be a bit colder for swimming. Furthermore, the landscapes during these seasons, with lush vegetation and changing colors, are spectacular.
