How to Get to Playa de Mekićevica

Getting to Playa de Mekićevica is part of the adventure and the reason why it retains its wild and uncrowded character. Don't expect direct car access or a bus stop right at the beach; here, the path is a trail that rewards the effort with spectacular views and a sense of discovery. Our experience tells us that the best way to approach is through the Marjan Forest Park, an impressive green lung overlooking the city of Split.

Access from Marjan Park

We can start the hike from the center of Split, going up the stairs that lead to the first of many panoramic views of Marjan, or take a local bus (line 12) that will drop us off closer, for example, in the area of Bene beach. From there, the path is relatively simple but requires a good walk. We prefer the option of walking from Bene, as it allows us to enjoy the entire coastal walk, with the scent of pine trees and sea views. The trail takes us along the southern part of the peninsula, passing other small coves and viewpoints. It's a walk of about 20-30 minutes from Bene, which feels longer under the summer sun, but every step is worth it.

Route from Kašjuni

Another option is to approach from Kašjuni beach, which is more accessible by car or taxi. From Kašjuni, we must follow a coastal trail to the west. This route also involves a walk, possibly a bit rockier in some parts, but equally rewarding. It's important to wear comfortable and suitable hiking footwear, as the terrain can be uneven. We recommend bringing enough water, especially in the summer months, as you won't find shops or kiosks on the way or at the beach itself. We always prepare a backpack with the essentials: water, some fruit, sunscreen, and, of course, the camera to capture the beauty of the surroundings. The nearest parking is near Kašjuni beach or in designated areas within Marjan Park, which means that, even if you come by car, the walk is inevitable.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Mekićevica, we must clarify that this is not a typical fine sand beach, but a white pebble cove, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves. These pebbles, of various sizes, give the beach an immaculate appearance and a particular texture underfoot. We would say the 'sand' is of a 'mixed' type in the sense that the pebbles are small and pleasant, not the large rocks sometimes found on other beaches. The light color of the pebbles, combined with the absence of algae and sediment on the bottom, contributes to the incredible transparency of the water.

The sea at Mekićevica is an intense turquoise blue, so crystal clear that it allows us to see the seabed with astonishing clarity, even at several meters depth. It's the kind of water that directly invites you to dive in. The temperature of the Adriatic here is generally pleasant from late spring to early autumn, perfect for long swims and cooling off from the Dalmatian sun. The entry into the water is gentle, although the pebbles may require water shoes for greater comfort, something we always recommend on this type of beach. The calm of its waters, protected by the bay, makes it ideal for swimming and floating without worries, allowing us to fully enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.

Services and Facilities

This is where Playa de Mekićevica differs from many other tourist beaches: its charm lies precisely in the absence of services and facilities. We see this as a blessing, as it's what allows it to maintain its wild and pristine character. Don't expect to find beach bars, restaurants, showers, toilets, or umbrella and sunbed rentals directly on the beach. This is a place for total disconnection, to return to the essentials, and to appreciate natural beauty without commercial distractions.

This lack of infrastructure means that, if you decide to visit, you must be completely self-sufficient.
