How to Get to Playa de Beritnica

Getting to Playa de Beritnica is part of the adventure and requires a bit of planning and determination. The beach is located on the island of Pag, near the small village of Metajna. We recommend driving to Metajna or Zubovići, where you will find signage for the 'Life on Mars' (Život na Marsu) trail. This trail, famous for its lunar landscape, is the main route to access Beritnica.

From the nearest Parking point at the start of the 'Life on Mars' trail (usually signposted), you will need to embark on a hike. The trail is of medium difficulty, with some rocky and steep sections, so we strongly advise wearing proper hiking footwear, not flip-flops. The duration of the hike varies, but it generally takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on your pace and stops to admire the panoramic views of the Adriatic and the unique rocky landscapes of Pag.

It is essential to bring enough water, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and perhaps some snacks, as you will not find any services at the beach. The reward for the hike is immense: as you descend towards the cove, the spectacular view of Playa de Beritnica with its iconic rock formations will be revealed. The experience of arriving on foot adds a sense of achievement and appreciation for the pristine beauty of the place, making every step worthwhile. Remember that, as it is a protected natural area, it is crucial to respect the environment and not leave any waste.

The Sand and Water

Upon arriving at Playa de Beritnica, the first thing you will notice is that it is not a traditional fine-sand beach. Its sand type is, in fact, pebble, composed of small stones and sea-polished cobbles. This ground type of pebble is characteristic of many Croatian beaches and contributes to the astonishing clarity of the water. The stones are comfortable for lying on, although some visitors prefer to bring a thick towel or a mat for greater comfort. We find that the pebble is ideal for keeping the water exceptionally clean and transparent.

Services and Facilities

It is crucial to understand that Playa de Beritnica is, in essence, a wild and pristine beach. This means that we will not find any of the amenities or services typically associated with more developed tourist beaches. For many, this absence is precisely its greatest attraction, as it allows for a genuine connection with nature without commercial distractions.

At Beritnica, there are no showers, chiringuitos (beach bars), lifeguards, nor umbrellas and sunbeds for rent. There are also no toilets or points of sale for food or drinks. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of self-sufficiency. You must bring with you everything you need for your stay: plenty of drinking water, food, towels, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and any other personal items. A good tip is to bring a bag to collect your own waste and take it back with you, thus helping to preserve the pristine beauty of this place.

The only 'service' we could mention is the Parking located at the start of the trail leading to the beach, a considerable distance from it. Furthermore, the beach is Pet-Friendly due to its remote and unregulated nature, meaning dogs are generally welcome, as long as they are under control and their owners take care of picking up their waste.
