How to Get to Playa de Lapad

Getting to Playa de Lapad is quite straightforward, which adds to its great appeal. If we are staying in Dubrovnik's historic center, we have several options to reach this coastal oasis.

By Bus

The most comfortable and economical way to get there is by using public transport. From Pile Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town, we can take bus number 4. This bus will drop us off very close to Playa de Lapad, in the heart of the peninsula, from where we only need to walk a few minutes to reach the shore. Buses are frequent, especially during the high season, making it easy to plan our beach day.

By Taxi or Uber

For those who prefer comfort and speed, a taxi or Uber service is an excellent option. The journey from the historic center usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on traffic. It is an ideal alternative if we are traveling with young children or if we have a lot of beach gear.

On Foot

If we are keen walkers and enjoy strolls, we can reach Playa de Lapad on foot from some areas of the Lapad peninsula. However, from the Old Town, the distance is considerable (about 3-4 km), so we recommend this option only if we have time and feel like exploring the surroundings at a more leisurely pace.

By Car

If we have rented a car, we can drive to the beach. There are parking options in the surrounding area, although during the high season it can be difficult to find a free space and prices can be high. It is always advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de Lapad is its type of ground. Unlike the fine sandy beaches many of us are used to, Playa de Lapad is predominantly pebble. This means the shore is covered with small, polished stones, giving it a very particular look and, for many, a rustic charm. Some sandals or water shoes will greatly facilitate our access to the sea and allow us to walk along the shore without discomfort. Once inside, the bottom becomes sandier in some areas, but the first steps are on pebbles. The gentleness of the waves in this bay makes it a very safe place to swim, even for the little ones, as the slope for entering the sea is gradual.
