How to Get to Playa de Grama

Due to its location on the Karaburun Peninsula, a protected and largely unexplored military zone, land access is extremely limited and challenging, reserved only for experienced hikers. The most common and recommended way to reach this paradise is by sea, which adds a touch of exclusivity to the visit.

Boat Tours from Vlora or Orikum

Most visitors choose to take one of the many boat tours that depart from the port of Vlora or from the Orikum marina. These tours are usually full-day and offer a complete experience, sailing along the stunning coast of the Karaburun peninsula, visiting other secret coves, and often including a stop at the famous Haxhi Ali Cave before arriving at Playa de Grama. Boats range from small private vessels to larger catamarans, all designed to offer comfort and the best panoramic views. The journey itself is spectacular, with steep cliffs, sea caves, and indescribably blue waters that invite contemplation.

Access on Foot: Only for the Most Adventurous

Although not the most popular option, there is a hiking trail that allows access to Playa de Grama on foot. However, we warn that this is not a hike for beginners. The Karaburun Peninsula is mountainous and rugged terrain, with poorly marked trails and no services. Excellent physical condition, proper equipment (including hiking boots, water, and sufficient supplies), and preferably the company of an experienced local guide are required. We strongly recommend the boat option for most travelers, not only for comfort and safety but also for the unique views that can only be appreciated from the sea.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Grama, the first thing you will notice is that its 'sand' is not the typical fine, golden sand found on other Albanian beaches. Here, the ground is composed of small white pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves, giving it a pristine appearance and a unique texture. Services and Facilities

As we have mentioned, Playa de Grama is a wild and relatively virgin destination, which means that infrastructure and services are minimal, if not non-existent. This is one of the reasons why it retains its natural charm and atmosphere of tranquility, but it also implies that visitors must prepare adequately.

During the high season, you may find a very rudimentary chiringuito or a small stall offering cold drinks and some basic snacks. Sometimes, boat tour companies may temporarily set up umbrellas and sun loungers for their clients, but it is not a guarantee. We always advise our travelers to prepare for self-sufficiency: bring plenty of drinking water, food, sunscreen, towels, and everything needed to spend the day comfortably. There are no permanent showers or public toilets, and parking is not applicable if arriving by boat. The absence of these services is a small price to pay for the unparalleled beauty and peace offered by this corner of Albania.
