How to Get to Playa de Spille

Getting to Playa de Spille is relatively easy, especially if we start from Tirana or Durrës, the closest cities with transport infrastructure. For us, the most comfortable way to access this coastal paradise is undoubtedly by car. From Tirana, the journey takes approximately an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic. We must take the road heading towards Durrës and, once there, follow the signs to Kavajë. From Kavajë, the road to Spille is well signposted, and we will enter a more rural area, with landscapes that already announce the proximity of the coast. The roads, in general, are paved and in good condition, although some sections may be narrower.

By Car

If we choose the car, flexibility is maximum. We can rent a vehicle at Tirana Airport (TIA) or in the city center. It is an excellent option if we plan to explore the surroundings and make excursions to other nearby beaches or cities. Parking at Playa de Spille is plentiful, with several designated areas, some paid and others free, especially if we consume at one of the restaurants or beach bars in the area. We always recommend carrying a GPS or using map applications on your mobile to avoid getting lost, although signage has improved considerably in recent years.

Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are also options. From Tirana, we can take a bus or a 'furgon' (shared minibus) to Kavajë. Once in Kavajë, we will have to find another furgon or a taxi to take us directly to Playa de Spille. The frequency of these transports can vary depending on the season, being higher during the summer months. Although it is a more economical option, it also requires more patience and can be less direct, with several stops. However, it allows for a more authentic immersion into local Albanian life, something we always value.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Spille is famous, and rightly so, for its sand. We find ourselves on a beach of fine sand with a pale golden hue that invites walking barefoot and building sandcastles. The sensation underfoot is incredibly soft and pleasant, making it an ideal place for long walks at sunrise or sunset. It is clean and well-maintained sand, which contributes to the overall feeling of well-being that permeates the beach. Children, in particular, love this sand, perfect for their games and for spending hours entertained on the shore.

As for the water, the Adriatic Sea in this area is notably calm and shallow in the first few meters.
