How to Get to Playa de Mali i Robit

The beach is located on the coast, about 45-50 kilometers west of Tirana and about 10-15 kilometers south of Durrës, Albania's second-largest city.

From Tirana

If we arrive by plane at Tirana International Airport (TIA), the journey to Mali i Robit takes approximately 40-55 minutes by car, depending on traffic. We can choose to rent a car directly at the airport, which offers the most flexibility for exploring the area. Alternatively, taxis are available to take us directly to our accommodation. For those who prefer public transport, there are buses connecting Tirana with Durrës, and from Durrës, we can take local buses or minibuses (vans) that travel along the coast to Golem and Mali i Robit. This is a more economical option, though it may take longer.

From Durrës

Durrës is an excellent starting point for visiting Mali i Robit. From the center of Durrës or the bus station, we can take a local bus or a van heading south towards Golem/Kavajë. These vehicles pass regularly and will drop us off on the main road that runs alongside the beach. The journey usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes. If we prefer comfort, a taxi from Durrës will cost between 10 and 15 euros, depending on the season.

By Private Car

If we are traveling in our own car or a rental, the route is quite direct. From Tirana, we take the SH2 highway towards Durrës. Before reaching the center of Durrës, we follow the signs towards the southern coast, towards Golem/Kavajë (SH4). The road that runs along the coast is the one that takes us directly to Playa de Mali i Robit. We will see numerous hotels and restaurants along the road, indicating we are in the right area. It's important to consider that during the high season, traffic can be heavy and finding parking may require some patience, although there are several paid parking lots available.

The water temperature is generally warm during the summer months, from June to September, often reaching 25-27 degrees Celsius, inviting long swims without feeling cold. The clarity is remarkable; on clear days, we can see the sandy bottom without difficulty. Although it's not a reef diving destination, the water's transparency is ideal for a simple refreshing swim and for observing small fish that venture near the shore.
