How to Get to Playa de Lalzi

Getting to Playa de Lalzi is relatively straightforward, which adds to its appeal. We always recommend flying into Tirana International Airport (TIA), the largest in Albania, located approximately 30-40 kilometers from the bay. From there, the options are varied and comfortable:

By Rental Car

This is, in our opinion, the best option for those who wish to explore the area at their own pace. The journey from Tirana airport to Playa de Lalzi takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. The road is modern and well-signposted. It gives us the freedom to visit hidden coves or nearby villages whenever we feel like it. There are several car rental companies available at the airport.

By Taxi or Private Transfer

For those who prefer comfort and don't want to worry about driving, a taxi or private transfer is an excellent alternative. Prices are reasonable compared to other European destinations. We can book in advance or find taxis directly at the airport. It's a stress-free option, ideal if we arrive with a lot of luggage.

By Bus

Although there is no direct bus line from the airport to Playa de Lalzi, we can take a bus from the airport to Tirana's bus station, and from there, look for connections to Durrës or the Lalzi area. This is the most economical option, but also the one that requires the most time and patience. However, for more adventurous travelers, it's a way to experience local life.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Lalzi welcomes us with a stretch of fine, golden sand that extends for several kilometers. It's the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot for hours, feeling its softness underfoot. The quality of the sand is excellent, clean and well-maintained, especially in the resort areas. It's perfect for building sandcastles with the kids or simply for laying out a towel and enjoying the sun.

But if there's one thing that truly captivates us about this Durrës beach, it's its waters. The Adriatic Sea here is a clear, transparent turquoise blue, with a cleanliness that has often earned it the Blue Flag distinction. The entry into the sea is very gentle and shallow for many meters, making it exceptionally safe for the little ones and for those who are not comfortable in deep water. It allows us to relax and enjoy a peaceful swim without worries. The water temperature during the summer months is pleasantly warm, ideal for cooling off and spending hours splashing around.

Services and Facilities

One of the reasons why Playa de Lalzi is so appreciated by us and by visitors is the excellent service infrastructure it offers. Unlike some wilder Albanian beaches, here we find everything needed for a comfortable and worry-free stay:

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: On the beach, especially in front of the resorts and 'chiringuitos', we find extensive areas with umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds available for rent. Prices are generally affordable.
• Chiringuitos and restaurants: The gastronomic offer is varied. From small 'chiringuitos' serving refreshing drinks and light snacks, to more formal restaurants where we can taste delicious local and international cuisine. We love the possibility of dining with sea views.
• Showers and toilets/WCs: Most establishments and managed areas of the beach have public showers and clean toilets, which is a big plus for maintaining comfort throughout the day.
• Lifeguard services: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services, which increases safety for all swimmers, especially for families. It's always reassuring to know there are watchful eyes.
• Parking: In the vicinity of the beach and the resorts, we find ample parking areas, some free and some paid, which facilitates access if we arrive by car.
• Equipment rental: It is possible to rent equipment for light water sports, such as paddle surfing or kayaks, at some points on the beach. We also find bike rental points at the resorts to explore the surroundings.
